February was a very fast month in preschool. We were very busy when we were at school! We made some fun valentine decorations and had a great party. Thank you to all parents who sent goodies for the party. We had a great time on our field trip to Cheney! The kids really had fun bowling and making and eating their pizzas!

This month we will be learning about Dr. Seuss, St. Patrick’s Day and Spring. We have many fun things planned to do! Please check the weekly newsletter for more details of what we are doing in Preschool.

A big “THANK YOU” to all the parents for attending conferences! We love sharing your child’s kindergarten success with you. We only have three more months with our students to prepare them for first grade, and we appreciate all the encouragement at home.

In March, we will be learning about measurement and numbers greater than 20. With measurement, we will be using non-standard units of measure, such as measuring things with blocks, paper clips, markers, etc. We will use the terms longer than, shorter than, and learn that we also measure things by weight and capacity. Continue to work on telling time to the hour, money, and numbers 0-20: write, recognize, and count, as well as number order.

In reading, we will be learning and reviewing the sounds of S, M, D, P, A, H, T, O, N, I, L, B, C, R, U, G, and  J, as well as our sight words: are, in, on, can, what, you, at, like, to, not, my. Continue to practice the sounds of all the letters we have learned so far, blend letters and their sounds into words, write short sentences, and work hard on memorizing the sight words they need to know by first grade.

Celebrations this month include Dr. Seuss’ birthday and St. Patrick’s Day. We wish you a happy, fun, and relaxing Spring Break, March 17th-21st!

Wow! We are near the end of the third-nine weeks grading period and thank you to all the parents that attended your child’s conference time and visited with their teachers about their progress in school. Hopefully ahead we will have better weather after this long, cold winter season.

We would like to take a minute to thank the parents, grandparents, and helpers that came out to help prepare the tables in the making of our Bread for Kansas Day. They had to cover the tables, distribute the kits, oversee the assembly of the ingredients, make sure the children listened to the instructions, clean up, and wait for the bread to bake and get it to the children. We couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you! Thank you!

Children, we loved the music program and you were great! The children practiced and performed well and were excited to see their families watch our music program “The Barnyard Moosical”. Thank you to Mrs. Moffitt for her leadership and expertise with the children, it was a success!

Congratulations to the children that have won their t-shirt for reaching their goal in the A.R. reading program. Children keep reading, reading, reading! Parents, thanks for your home support with your child; it makes a difference at school.

This past month has been such an exciting one for our third graders! We enjoyed celebrating Valentine’s Day with great treats, fun games and some crafts. These special times mean so much to our students! We would like to thank everyone that helped make the Valentine parties such a huge success. It is always exciting to see everyone having so much fun.

The third grade teachers would also like to thank each parent that took the time to come to conferences. It is so helpful to have a special time set aside to discuss each individual child’s achievements! We appreciate all the support that you have given us this year as we introduce your child to many new skills and concepts. Your support and our dedication help to create a successful school year for each child.

State Assessments are now upon us. On testing days please have your child get enough sleep and start the day with a healthy breakfast. Encourage your child to do his/her best on these tests.  Please make sure that your child is here and on time for the testing dates. Try to avoid scheduling any appointments on their testing day. Below are the scheduled testing dates and times for each teacher.

Finally, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy spring break. We look forward to a restful vacation with family and wish the same for all of you! Since our state math assessments occur AFTER spring break, it will be very helpful for you to have your child complete the daily math review packet that your child’s teacher will send home. It is imperative that your child continue to review concepts and vocabulary so that he or she can do his or her very best on the test! Thank you so much for reviewing these pages with your child to check their work and make sure they understand the concepts. Your help at home making sure your child doesn’t backtrack over the long break is so very much appreciated!

Grade 4 News...

In like a lion and out like a lamb. March is sure to bring better weather. With the hope of better weather comes a busy month for the fourth graders. First, a big thank you goes to our parents for planning such wonderful Valentine’s Day parties. Fun was had by all. Also, the parents showed great support by attending Parent Teacher Conferences. We all like to think of March as the time for SPRING BREAK! Before we all leave on March 12th, all fourth graders will take the Kansas State Reading Assessment.  Eating healthy, sleeping well, and plenty of exercise are good for the students. These will help the students to maximize good test taking. Thanks again, parents, for your support.

Students continue to shine in Rocket Math! Way to fly students.

The students will be using Bare Books for their 4th grade writing project. Please send $2.25 to school for the purchase of the book if you have not already done so. This writing project will be completed by the first part of May if not sooner. Parents and students will savor this as a great 4th grade memory. Keep wishing for warmer weather so we CAN GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!

Reminders:
  • This is a reminder to please slow down when you enter the school zone.  The speed limit of 20 mph is in effect prior to school in the morning, mid-day for the departure and arrival of kindergartners and again late in the afternoon for school dismissal. Please be aware that the school zone speed limit will be enforced in earnest.  The City of Goddard Police Department will be issuing tickets to violators.
  • Any change in your child’s daily bus routine must be verified in writing from the child’s parent/guardian before school starts for the day.  Written notice must be given to the office if the child is to be picked up that day instead of riding the bus home.  For the safety of your child, we will no longer honor telephone calls to change a child’s school bus routine unless it is an emergency.
  • Please continue to save your Whites’ grocery slips.  We have a box in the office and another one is located at Whites and is marked for Clark Davidson.
  • If your child will be absent or coming to school late due to illness or for an appointment, please notify the office.
  • Parents we need your help!  If you are going to change your child’s arrangements for leaving after school, we need to be notified by note or by phone.  If it is a phone call, please notify the office by 3:30 p.m.  This will ensure that we can let your child know about the change.  As always, these procedures are not just for convenience but to provide for the safety of your child.
  • The school has requested the School District Police Department ticket cars left unattended in the fire zone (red curbing).  If you want to escort your child into the building or pick them up, please park in a parking lot space.
  • Parents: Please remind your children to ride their bicycles next to the curb with the traffic or on the sidewalks when coming to school.  Thank you.
  • We are a Drug Free School Zone.  Our parking lot and grounds are considered part of our school property.  Please remember that you can not use tobacco, alcohol, or illegal/un-prescribed drugs while on school property.
  • A reminder that you must have a handicap parking placard or license plate to park in our handicap parking spaces.
  • As always, thank you for all of your support for the students and staff at our building!
