Caller ID activated on main phone
numbers for Goddard Schools
Effective October 21, 2008, calls originating from Goddard Public Schools
phones will show on your Caller ID the main number for the building from
which the call was dialed.
For example, calls from Goddard High School will show up on Caller
ID as 316-794-4100. Calls from Explorer Elementary School will show
as 316-794-4181.
YOU WILL NEED TO LISTEN TO THE MESSAGE LEFT BY THE CALLER to determine
which individual staff member placed the call to you!
Please listen to the message before calling the school office to ask,
“Who called me?” Our office staff members are very talented and have
impressive skills -- but it is unlikely they will know who placed an individual
call from one of the more than 675 phones in Goddard
Public Schools!
We are pleased to be able to offer Caller ID to our patrons, and hope
you will find it useful to know that someone from your child’s school has
tried to call. Please understand that individual staff members’ phone numbers
will not display on Caller ID – only the number of the building from which
they are calling.
Thank You Westlink Christian
Church
Westlink Christian Church made a cash donation to our school and we
appreciate their generosity. The donation will be used to support students
that are in need of some type of care during the school year. Thank you
for your
support!!

Homework Help
KERC features a direct link to HomeworkKansas at www.kerc-ks.org
which is a service provided by the state library of Kansas and Kansas public
libraries. It offers tutoring available seven days a week, from 4:00
pm to 11:00 pm and, in Spanish language Sunday through Thursday, from 4:00
pm to 9:00 pm. The service is high tech and sophisticated, but very
simple to use—students indicate their grade level and the subject they
need help in and HomeworkKansas connects them to the best available tutor.
Tutors don’t provide answers, they provide help
Remember
Please call the Discovery office by 9:00 a.m. to excuse your student
if they will be late or absent. Requests for homework should be made
before 11:00 a.m. to allow teachers time to prepare work for pick up by
3:00 p.m. Thank you for your cooperation.

Mrs. Nixon, Ms. Orand, Mr. Paulus and Mrs. Ziegler
Thanks to all the parents that were able to make it to conferences
in October. We appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to
visit with us about your students. In the coming month we will continue
working on division and then move onto measurement in math. In reading
we will cover fact/opinion, description, main idea, and retelling of stories.
Parents, please make sure that your student is dressed appropriately
for the cold weather. We go outside everyday for recess unless the
temperature is below 25 degrees with wind chill.
Sixth Grade News
Sixth grade teachers:
Mr. Bieker, Ms. Harrison, Mr. Means, Mrs. Smith, Ms. Pullum, Mrs.
Vance, and Mrs. Zerener
Parent-Teacher conferences were very productive. We enjoyed meeting
with parents and discussing their student’s successes and talking about
strategies to improve weaknesses. Thank you for taking the time out of
your schedule to attend conferences. If something prevented you from conferencing
with you child’s teachers, please let us know and we’d be happy to set
up a time for you.
During November, Reading classes will be working on sequencing, context
clues, and comparing and contrasting. Please find time to read with your
child often!
Our focus in Math will be fractions. 6th graders will be studying the
ins and outs of fractions: adding, subtracting, simplifying, and converting
are just a few of the operations we will discuss. Practice using fractions
at home while cooking!
In Social Studies we will continue our studies of Ancient Egypt and
Nubia. Students will be bringing a letter home regarding their Egypt project
in the next two weeks.
In Language we will be finishing up our study of nouns and looking
forward to some fun writing projects for the six graders this nine weeks.
You can be a big help to your student by proofreading his or her paper.
