We have gotten the second semester off to a great start here at Eisenhower Middle School! With spring break in March, we have decided to combine our February and March newsletters. Our third nine-week progress reports will be posted in Skyward on Friday, February 5 and three days of parent-teacher conferences will be held on February 23-25. Information about scheduling parent-teacher conferences will be sent to you the first week of February. We appreciate the excellent parent response we’ve had to parent-teacher conferences. It is nice to see our parents so involved in the education of their children. We value your support of our school. We are in the process of gearing up for the 2010 Kansas State Assessments. Our goal is for all students to do their best on the state assessments. Last year the Kansas Department of Education awarded EMS the “Standard of Excellence” in reading, math, science, and writing. Our teachers and students have been working hard to prepare for these tests. We will be testing all seventh and eighth graders in math and reading. The seventh graders will also be taking the state science assessment. All of our state assessments are administered electronically on the computers. You can have a tremendous impact of your child’s scores by encouraging them to do their best. Recognition and encouragement of our students are keys to excellent performance. Together we can maximize the performance of our students on these assessments! I would like to remind everyone that we have scheduled our “Winter Recognition Assembly” on Friday, March 12. The seventh grade assembly will be held at 8:00 a.m. and the eighth grade at 9:15 a.m. in the EMS gymnasium. We will honor our students in the areas of academics and activities. Our winter athletes will receive their letters, a number of students will receive awards for participating in activities, and second nine weeks honor roll students will be recognized. I would encourage all parents to attend this event. We believe it is a great opportunity to recognize our students in a variety of ways. I would like to thank all of our Eisenhower Middle School parents for the level of support and commitment that is demonstrated daily, and for your continued support. I am fortunate and grateful to be a part of this learning community. Sincerely,
