Library Happenings

Laura Soash
Librarian

No way! No how! It can’t be the end of the school year! I must be getting older because my mother always said time goes by quickly when you get older. What a year it’s been. Our second year here at Explorer has been incredibly successful. I love being around the students and sharing the love of books and learning.  What equally excites me is working with our superior staff and collaborating on lessons. What the children learn in the classroom is what I try to do an extended lesson on in the library each week. It’s so exciting for me and I do love to teach.

One thing you could do for me as the year winds down is to please make sure your child has returned all library books and has taken care of paying for lost or damaged ones. As we put the library to bed for the summer, it’s important to account for all our books. We’ll be sending notices home with your child if he/she has books out, so please keep an eye out for them.

Also, I want to thank all the parents who volunteered in the library and worked at the book fairs. Without you we could never have had such a successful time. The PTO has been a super friend to the library as well.

Last, but not least, I’d like to thank the children at Explorer for being such great kids! They make my job so enjoyable. Please keep the children reading this summer. Check out the reading programs at the public libraries – they’re great. Also, trips to the public library and book stores make for great times. Remember, if the children don’t practice reading over the summer, they lose a lot of the skills they’ve gained this year.

And, to the Star 4th graders, I’ll miss you and wish you well as you go to Discovery/Challenger. Please remember you can always come back and see me.
Have a great summer and remember READING IS SUCCEEDING!
