How quickly the year flies by! It seems just yesterday we were welcoming students and parents at Open House and yet here we are with less than two weeks of the school year left. It has been a busy year filled with many accomplishments. We excelled academically with outstanding state assessment scores. We reclaimed the Pioneer League Food Drive trophy by collecting 10,536 items in just five days! Our 7th grade volleyball team won the league tournament, we had several individual honors in cross country, wrestling and tennis, and we displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the year. We raised money for 12 mittens at Christmas, we collected school items for the children of Panama and we supported the American Cancer Society with some end of the year activities. The commitment of our students, parents and staff was evident on a daily basis this year and I am honored to be part of such a caring, nurturing environment.

We still have a busy two weeks ahead of us and welcome your attendance to many upcoming events. Spring sports will draw to a close with the league tennis meet on May 7 and the league track meet on May 9. The music department will host their final concerts so please check the district calendar for these events. May 7-11 is Teacher Appreciation Week. I encourage each of you to take a moment to thank a teacher or staff member for their efforts. Encourage your students to do the same. Most importantly, students will be compl eting assignments and projects and finals that will dictate their fourth quarter grades so please encourage them to stay focused and finish strong.

Our last day of school is Thursday, May 17. Students will clean out their lockers on Wednesday, May 16 and will not have access to their lockers the last day of school. The only items students need to bring on the last day are a pen and/or pencil and paper. In the past, this procedure has proven successful in preventing any major problems. Our goal is to have a safe, productive final day of school.

This year our BIG day of end-of-the-year activities will be the last day of school, so please plan accordingly. We will have our final Awards Assemblies in the morning. The seventh grade assembly will begin at 8:45 AM and the 8th grade assembly will begin at 9:45 AM. In the afternoon, student council is hosting our annual talent show and Publications is sponsoring a yearbook signing party. We hope to see you at some of these events as we recognize our students for their accomplishments and talents one last time.

I would like to thank you for entrusting your child to us this year. I truly enjoyed getting to know them. On behalf of the faculty and staff at Goddard Middle School, I would like to wish each of you a safe, relaxing summer.

Sean Hollas, Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

The Goddard Booster Club is a non-profit organization that raises money to support middle school and high school academic and athletic activities. They accomplish this by selling memberships and hosting fundraising events. The Booster Club has given Goddard Middle School $24,000 over the past 3 years to help pay for a variety of middle school athletic supplies, uniforms, and equipment.

The Booster Club is sponsoring a fund raising event in May and August, and I would encourage you to participate. Several area physicians and chiropractors will generously donate their time to administer sports physicals for $20 each, and they will donate all money raised to the Booster Club. If your child plans to participate in any school sport next year, he/she will need a physical on file in our office; it must be dated after May 1, 2012. This physical will be effective for the entire 2012-13 school year. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents and the Booster Club.

The physicals will be given on two dates at Goddard Middle School: Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to noon and Saturday, August 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. Physical forms will be available at those times.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your support.
