Food Drive a Huge Success

The results are in! Our official 2011 Food Drive total is 10,536 items, which is almost 2000 items more than last year. That is an average of 26.5 items per student. What an awesome job! I am so proud of the GMS students and staff for all the effort (and FUN) that went into this year's collection. The total percentage of students and staff who contributed items was an amazing 80.2%! Three of our Pride Times were treated to a McDonald's breakfast because they had such high averages. They were: Mrs. Rindt – 37.6 items per student; Mrs. Hardesty and Mrs. Tyler – 35.8 items; and Mrs. Skala – 29.4 items. Again, thanks to our parents for their support of our annual food drive. We will let you know when we have the results from the entire Pioneer League.

Goddard Middle School PTO Dance

PTO will host its annual dance on Friday, February 10.

Last year PTO raised $2500 from the dance, gave away over 200 prizes, and students had a great time!

The reason the dance was such a success is that many parents and businesses donated the prizes. As you shop this holiday season (as well as the after-Christmas sales), please keep PTO in mind if you come across a great bargain that will appeal to a middle school student. We'll send an email in January asking for your help.

If you own a business or work for a business that is willing to donate items/money towards the dance, please contact Principal Lisa Hogarth at lhogarth@goddardusd.com or 794-4230.

Breakfast is Served!
Do you know that our school offers a breakfast program for all students? Breakfast is served each day in the GMS cafeteria from 7:05-7:30. Click here for meal prices. If a student is eligible for free or reduced lunches, he or she also qualifies for a free or reduced breakfast. Please check into our delicious and healthy breakfast food!

Internet Program Offers After School Tutoring
HomeworkKansas provides expert tutoring in core subjects to every Kansas student, Grades 4-12. HomeworkKansas, a service of the State Library of Kansas, allows students to connect to an expert tutor for one-to-one homework help. Tutoring is provided by a live tutor via the Internet. Students simply log on to the HomeworkKansas website at www.homeworkkansas.org and enter their Kansas library card number. Students can register and receive a Kansas library card number instantaneously at the same site. To better match students and their homework needs with the best available tutor, students are asked for their grade level and their homework topic. The student then enters the on-line classroom and, using chat technology and an on-line whiteboard, the tutoring sessions begins. All tutors are certified and have completed a third party background check. Tutors are available seven days a week from 4:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
