5th Grade News
The fourth nine weeks is right around the corner and that means Spring Break -March 15th-19th! It also means the State Reading and Math assessment are approaching. The state reading assessment will occur during the week of March 9th-11th and the students will take the math assessment March 30th- April 1st. Please encourage your children to eat well and get plenty of sleep during testing weeks.

Thanks to those who attended parent/teacher conferences. Students are the ones who truly benefit when the school and parents work together. We would also like to thank the PTO for the wonderful meals.

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the spring weather as we will have outdoor recess when the wind chill is at or above 25 degrees. If your child is sick please remember to call the front office (794-4040) to collect assignments for the day.
Have a safe and enjoyable spring break.

6th Grade NewsWe are all very excited for the upcoming state assessments in Reading (March 9-11) and in Math (March 30-April 1); the kids will get to show the world what they’ve learned and worked tirelessly on throughout the entire year. As we approach the tests, it’s important that kids start eating healthy breakfasts, get to bed at reasonable times, set high goals for their performance, etc…;Parents please help us in policing this. All in all, everyone’s efforts will be a recipe for success and we look forward to celebrating our hard work and dedication on March 12th and April 2nd.

In Math, specifically, students are being taught all that they will need to know for the state tests; attendance is vital to their overall understanding of each and every concept that is taught. In the coming weeks, we’ll start preparing the kids for 7th grade. In Reading, we want to encourage kids to continue their daily reading. As the weather eventually gets warmer and summer fever starts to spread, it can be hard to keep focused from day to day. In the coming weeks for Reading, novel units and plays will take place in some of the classes. It should be a very exciting spring.

We want to thank all parents and guardians for their continued support. Success in a child’s education cannot occur at any time without everyone working as a team and toward a common goal.

Announcements
Dear Parents:

Please take a moment to review the following changes to student lunch account balances that are in effect for Goddard School District, USD 265.

Students in grades K – 8 who do not receive free or reduced meals and their lunch account balance is zero or below, a type A (reimbursable) meal will be made available to them. A reimbursable or type A meal consists of one main dish, one milk, and several sides. cost will be applied to the student’s lunch account. , ALL students must maintain a positive balance on their lunch accounts to be able to purchase extra mains, milks, items from the snack bar, or ice cream when made available.

In the event a student’s account reaches -$10.00, they will be served cheese, crackers, and milk unless a sack lunch is provided or money is added to the student’s account by the child’s parent or guardian. student will no longer be provided a type A or reimbursable meal. If a child is served cheese and crackers for three consecutive days due to a sack lunch or lunch money not being provided by the parent/guardian, that information will be turned over to SRS and our USD 265 Police Department for action.

Students who attend Goddard High School or the Goddard Academy and are not on a free or reduced program will be required to maintain a positive balance on their lunch account at all times in order to purchase a meal or snack items. Those who are on the free or reduced program will continue to receive their reimbursable meal, but will not be allowed to purchase extra mains, milks, or items from the snack bar if there is not a positive balance in the account.

The USD 265 administration realizes these are difficult times. If you need an application for free or reduced lunches please contact the Nutrition Services Office immediately at 316-794-4000. information is kept confidential and no other student or staff member will know you have requested and/or receive assistance. be aware, however, that once a student has been approved to receive free or reduced meals, the child’s parent/guardian is still responsible for any outstanding balances.

You can visit NutriKids to monitor and manage your students’ lunch account. , for added convenience, payments can be made on-line.

Each student’s respective school will attempt to call, e-mail, and/or send written notices home regarding lunch account balances. contact your student’s school to make sure all of your contact information is current. we can be of further assistance, please call our offices at 794-4000, and speak to our nutrition services specialists.

Sincerely,
Greg Kalina, Director of Nutrition Services

Reminders
Inclement Weather Plan
With cooler weather on the horizon, we encourage all families to formulate alternative plans for students in case weather should force the early cancellation of school. If students know what to do ahead of time, it reduces the stress of last minute planning both for the students and parents.

Attendance
An absence/tardy is unexcused without a valid excuse. The principal shall be responsible for determining the validity of offered excuses for absences/tardies from school. Unexcused absences/tardies may result in disciplinary action appropriate to each grade level which includes, but is not limited to, detention, in-school suspension, or Saturday School. Unexcused absences/tardies may also result in a student being reported to appropriate authorities. Students with excessive absences/tardies may be required to provide additional documentation.

Administrators will communicate with parents to insure every effort is made to encourage regular school attendance by all students. Letters will be mailed, per compulsory school attendance law, when students receive three (3) consecutive unexcused absences or five (5) unexcused absences in a semester or seven (7) unexcused absences in a school year (see JBD-R and JBE). In addition, a letter will be mailed when any student accumulates ten (10) or more absences, excused or unexcused, in one semester.

Field Trips
No student will be allowed to leave the building on a field study trip without a signed permission slip on file. These slips must be on file the day before the trip. No phone calls or faxes will be accepted. Students will not be allowed to call home. Student must ride the bus to and from the field trip.
