Grade News | Announcements | Reminders

The fifth grade students had a great time at the spring parties. Thank you to all the parents who helped. Be sure to congratulate your child on their reading state assessment. The students worked very hard and did a great job.
Just a few reminders as we begin the fourth nine weeks. We will be taking our math state assessments on April 1-3. Please make sure your student gets plenty of sleep, eats a good breakfast and comes to school on time. As we wind down the year please continue to check your student’s agenda for homework and communication with their teacher.
Be looking for information to come home about our field trip to Exploration Place near the end of April.
As a reminder, with the warmer weather approaching the students may still need a jacket to take out for recess. Thank you for your continued support as we enter the last two months of the year.
Upcoming 5th Grade Field Trip Dates:
April 22nd: Carr, Mullen, Semrad, Thomas (Expo Place)
April 23rd: Anderson, Aragon, Dondlinger, Joseph (Expo Place)
May 12th: Entire 5th grade (Bowling at The Alley)
Permission slips will be going home soon for Exploration Place, so be watching for them! |

Wow! We can’t believe the fourth nine weeks is already here. Time really does fly when you’re having fun! Sixth grade students worked really hard on their State Reading Assessment. We are very proud of all their hard work. State Math Assessments will take place April 8th-10th and State Social Studies Assessments will be held April 21st and 22nd. Please make sure your child is getting plenty of rest the night before a test and eats a nutritious breakfast that morning.
With the spring weather finally arriving, please make sure your child is appropriately dressed when they come to school. If you have any questions about the school dress code, please review it in the front of your student’s agenda book. Thanks for all of your continued support at home. You are the best!

Attention Boeing Employees
Are
you aware of the tutoring program that Boeing has in place called
Boeing Target Learning Through Tutoring Program. With your supervisor’s
permission you might be able to tutor Challenger students up to 3
hours a week. Please contact Diane Longfellow at 268-1141 or email
at diane@wacc.org for more information.

Inclement Weather Plan
With cooler weather on the horizon, we encourage all families to formulate alternative
plans for students in case weather should force the early cancellation of school.
If students know what to do ahead of time, it reduces the stress of last minute
planning both for the students and parents.
Attendance
An absence/tardy is unexcused without a valid excuse. The principal
shall be responsible for determining the validity of offered excuses
for absences/tardies from school. Unexcused absences/tardies may
result in disciplinary action appropriate to each grade level which
includes, but is not limited to, detention, in-school suspension,
or Saturday School. Unexcused absences/tardies may also result
in a student being reported to appropriate authorities. Students
with excessive absences/tardies may be required to provide additional
documentation.
Administrators will communicate with parents to insure
every effort is made to encourage regular school attendance by all
students. Letters will be mailed, per compulsory school attendance
law, when students receive three (3) consecutive unexcused absences
or five (5) unexcused absences in a semester or seven (7) unexcused
absences in a school year (see JBD-R and JBE). In addition, a letter
will be mailed when any student accumulates ten (10) or more absences,
excused or unexcused, in one semester.
Field Trips
No student will be allowed
to leave the building on a field study trip without a signed permission
slip on file. These slips must be on file the day before the trip.
No phone calls or faxes will be accepted. Students will not be allowed
to call home. Student must ride the bus to and from the field trip.
