WALNUT STREET SPEED LIMIT
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CHALLENGER/DISCOVERY AND CLARK DAVIDSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ZONES
Effective February 11th, 2011, the school zones on Walnut Street in front of Challenger/Discovery Intermediate and Clark Davidson Elementary are being combined into ONE – 20 MILE PER HOUR - SCHOOL ZONE. Beginning at Third and Walnut Streets, all the way south to Richard Road – just south of Clark Davidson Elementary – will now be 20 MPH during the following times on school days:
7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. | 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. | 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Please remember that there are no flashing yellow lights to warn driver's they are in a school zone. The above times are posted directly underneath the 20 MPH School Zone Signs and it is each driver's responsibility to obey the 20 MPH limit during those time periods. The City of Goddard treats School Zones just like Construction Zones, whereby the fines are DOUBLED. Please be careful.
- This is a reminder to please slow down when you enter the school zone. The speed limit of 20 mph is in effect prior to school in the morning, mid-day for the departure and arrival of kindergartners and again late in the afternoon for school dismissal. Please be aware that the school zone speed limit will be enforced in earnest. The City of Goddard Police Department will be issuing tickets to violators.
- Any change in your child's daily bus routine must be verified in writing from the child's parent/guardian before school starts for the day. Written notice must be given to the office if the child is to be picked up that day instead of riding the bus home. For the safety of your child, we will no longer honor telephone calls to change a child's school bus routine unless it is an emergency.
- If your child will be absent or coming to school late due to illness or for an appointment, please notify the office.
- Parents we need your help! If you are going to change your child's arrangements for leaving after school, we need to be notified by note or by phone. If it is a phone call, please notify the office by 3:30 p.m. This will ensure that we can let your child know about the change. As always, these procedures are not just for convenience but to provide for the safety of your child.
- The school has requested the School District Police Department ticket cars left unattended in the fire zone (red curbing). If you want to escort your child into the building or pick them up, please park in a parking lot space.
- Parents: Please remind your children to ride their bicycles next to the curb with the traffic or on the sidewalks when coming to school.
- We are a Drug Free School Zone. Our parking lot and grounds are considered part of our school property. Please remember that you can not use tobacco, alcohol, or illegal/un-prescribed drugs while on school property.
- A reminder that you must have a handicap parking placard or license plate to park in our handicap parking spaces.
As always, thank you for all of your support for the students and staff at our building!
