Sixth graders are getting ready to take State Assessments in Math and Reading during the next two months. Please
encourage your student to continue to complete homework on time and ask questions over material they may be
struggling with.
Spring conferences are fast approaching. Please email or call (704-4030) your student's teachers to set up a conference
time on February 21-22, 2012. Please remember, evening times fill up fast so reserve your time as soon as
possible.
- Math News- All the topics we will be covering in math in February and March are new to the kids. Solving
Equations, Understanding and Working with Ratios, Rates and Proportions are fun, but could be out of some
of the kids' comfort zones. We have learned all the foundation work for these lessons and now are putting
everything together. After Spring Break we will begin an intensive review prior to the State Test.
- Social Studies News-We are beginning to study Ancient Civilizations. First up is Greece. The students are really
looking forward to studying Greek Mythology. Next will be Rome. There will be a State Social Studies test. Tentatively,
the date will be the week before Spring Break, March 13-15, 2012.
- Reading News-Reading classes are reviewing all the skills we have learned in preparation for the State Test on
March 6 -8, 2012. We have learned: Word Structure, Figurative Language, Text Features, Making Inferences/
Drawing Conclusions, Context Clues, Compare & Contrast, Cause & Effect, Retell/Paraphrase, Main Idea & Detail,
Author's Purpose and Position, Fact & Opinion, Character, Setting and Plot! We are ready to show what we know!
- Language News-Language classes are busy working in Pattern 2 and 3. They are identifying Direct and Indirect
Objects. Ask your student for a demonstration of what they have learned thus far in language using this sentence:
The funny clown gave the child a balloon for a prize.
