Breakfast- $1.50

Any money left in their account will be carried over for next year.

Homework Help
KERC features a direct link to HomeworkKansas at www.kerc-ks.org which is a service provided by the state library of Kansas and Kansas public libraries.  It offers tutoring available seven days a week, from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm and, in Spanish language Sunday through Thursday, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.  The service is high tech and sophisticated, but very simple to use—students indicate their grade level and the subject they need help in and HomeworkKansas connects them to the best available tutor.  Tutors don’t provide answers, they provide help

Yearbooks
Orders are being taken now through December 15th for Discovery Intermediate yearbooks for $13.00.  A number of yearbooks will be available for purchase in May on a first come, first serve basis for $15.00.

The Discovery yearbook uses digital photos. If you have any digital photos that you would like to contribute to the yearbook for possible publication, please send them throughout the year to rgrimm@goddardusd.com. These photos will need to be in .jpg form. The deadline is January 10th for activity photos and Feb. 20th for band, orchestra, music photos.

Remember
Please call the Discovery office by 9:00 a.m. to excuse your student if they will be late or absent.  Requests for homework should be made before 11:00 a.m. to allow teachers time to prepare work for pick up by 3:00 p.m.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Change in Perfect Attendance Criteria
In the past, we have counted students being tardy against perfect attendance if they were late because of morning doctor’s appointments.  This year, we have changed that policy.  Please bring in a doctor’s note from your student’s appointment and we will waive the absence.  If a student is gone a whole day because they were seeing a doctor, the attendance record for that day will be excused, but will count as an absence. Please keep us informed.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Fifth Grade News
Fifth grade teachers:
Mrs. Belt, Mrs. McCollar, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Nixon, Ms. Orand, Mr. Paulus and Mrs. Ziegler

The fifth grade classes are working hard toward  the end of the year to prepare for next year in 6th grade!  Students did a fantastic job on state assessments, but we still have a lot to do before May 21!  Please continue checking agenda books each night and asking your child about their day and any possible homework so they don’t fall behind at the end of the year.  We realize that May is busy with extracurricular activities as well as taking field trips, but we still do some learning in between it all!  Our big project we’re working on right now is our annual Wax Museum.  Students have picked out an outstanding American, which they will research, write a speech about, and create a poster for.  We will present in full costume on May 7-9.  Ask your child which day their class is presenting so that you  may come to the gym and watch. It’s always quite an impressive event.  Watch for information to come home soon about the Wax Museum!  We also have several field trips and fun school activities in May, so please watch for any letters coming home for dates.

Since this is our last newsletter, we would like to thank all of our parents for their support all year.  We really appreciate all of the parent volunteers who helped throughout the year for various activities.  We could not help your child be successful without you!  We hope everyone has a fantastic summer and we look forward to seeing you all next year in the halls!
