SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENTS

FROM KSHSAA RULES & REGULATIONS: Art. 3:
A student in grades 7-12 shall meet the following requirements for eligibility in interschool activities:

  1. Scholarship—The student shall have passed at least five new subjects (those not previously passed) of unit weight, or its equivalency, the previous semester or the last semester of attendance. (See Rule 14-1-1, Bona Fide Student and Rule 15-1-3, Enrollment/ Attendance.)
  2. Enrollment—The student shall be enrolled in and attending a minimum of five new subjects (those not previously passed), of unit weight, or its equivalency, during the present semester. (See Rule 14-1-1, Bona Fide Student, and Rule 15-1-3, Enrollment/Attendance.)

NOTE: High school students dually enrolled in colleges, who have their college hours recorded on their high school transcript, may count five hours of college credit as two subjects of unit weight or three hours of college credit as one subject of unit weight. However, the student must attend at least one class of unit weight at the member, base school per semester.

CITIZENSHIP/SPORTSMANSHIP – Reference KSHSAA Rule 52 Section 1
The effective American secondary school must support both an academic program and an activities program. These programs must be integrated and support each other in "different" arenas. The concept of "sportsmanship" must be taught, modeled, expected and reinforced in the classroom and in all competitive activities. Therefore, all Kansas State High School Activities Association members stand together in support of the following sportsmanship policy.

Activities are an important aspect of the total education process in the American schools. They provide an arena for participants to grow, to excel, to understand and to value the concepts of SPORTSMANSHIP and teamwork. They are an opportunity for coaches and school staff to teach and model SPORTSMANSHIP, to build school pride, and to increase student/community involvement, this ultimately translates into improved academic performance. Activities are also an opportunity to demonstrate its support for the participants and the school, and to model the concepts of SPORTSMANSHIP for our youth as respected representatives of society. Sportsmanship is good citizenship in action! All actions are to be for, not against; positive, not negative or disrespectful.

PARTICIPATING IN PRACTICES AND CONTESTS
A minimum of three hours of attendance at school is required for a student to be eligible to participate in a contest or practice that day. If a student's illness is serious enough that he/she cannot attend school, then the student should also be too ill to participate in activities after school. Special exceptions to this will be made in cases such as funerals, doctor or dental appointments, and family emergencies. The coach and athletic director will consider these absences.

LION SPORTSMANSHIP CODE:
Create a positive competitive enviornment.
Demonstrate pride in your team and your school.
Show respect for coaches, players, and fans.
Accept and respect the decisions of officials.
Win AND lose with dignity.
