Students work in pairs at Modules that connect Technology with Life. Each module is a rotation of 7 school days with a makeup day (Day 8). This class is highly dependent on students working together in pairs and solving problems. We have 18 modules including Applied Physics, Audio Broadcasting, Natural Disasters, Engineering Bridges, Flight, and Weather. Students will complete approximately 10 modules during the semester. This past summer all the modules were updated and we replaced 4 modules with new topics.

February 23
The first day of P/T Conferences is about over. We are in the middle of Rotation 3 as we take a break. I've adopted Mr. Brown's policy of allowing students to gain up to 20 Extra Credit points each rotation. They can create a crossword puzzle using up to 10 vocabulary words from the module they are in. They can create the puzzle on graph paper or use an online generator such as the two listed in the left column. I will no longer be sending home a grade report that can be returned for extra credit.
REMINDER: I've changed the way I do Extra Credit. Students can make a crossword puzzle each rotation for up to 20 points of Extra Credit. The instructions are in the left column.
February 2
Mr. Brown and I have added one extra day (Wed, Feb 3) to Rotation 1 to help students finish up. The first rotation is always tough no matter how much orientation we do. They don't quite realize how important time management and focused work affect their success...but most of them catch on!
Thursday we'll start Rotation 2 and should then be on a pretty good track. Look for a printed grade report to come home on Thursday reflecting their grades up through Rotation 1. It can be signed and returned for Extra Credit.
January 15
We have just finished Orientation to the Tech 8 lab. I've gone over the procedures and grading for the lab through a PowerPoint and they have been on the computer going through an orientation rotation. Today we took the test to see how much they have absorbed. Any notes they took could be used while working on the test. The grades for the rotation and test will be showing up in the gradebook during the next few days.
Wednesday will bring their first 'real' rotation. Any students missing days this past week will need to get in next week before or after school to get them made up.
January 6
All my classes are new again. Lots of new faces and names to learn! We are off and running. Day 1 was filled with lots of information and note taking. The Tech 8 lab has lots of procedures and things to do that are new. I will go over most of the details through a PowerPoint and then we'll sit down and experience the lab through an 'Orientation' rotation. There will be a test on Friday, January 15.
All students in attendance yesterday were given a copy of the class syllabus. They should have brought it home and it needs to be returned by Thursday, January 7 for full credit. If you'd like to have a copy for your own records, you can download one with the link on the left. |
