Family and consumer sciences is a class that will teach your child about life skills.  We will learn about family and personal relationships, goals, nutrition and foods, consumerism, and clothing.  The goal of family and consumer science today is to give students information that can be used in their personal lives.  Students will need to have notebook paper to be kept in the classroom and are to have a writing utensil everyday.  During the course of the semester, the students will be constructing shorts or pants as well as a tote bag and will be responsible for purchasing the material necessary for completing the assignment.   

There are many assignments we cover in class that result in the students taking work home to be completed with an adult in the household.  These assignments are intended to enhance the student’s knowledge and exposure to the related topics.  If there is ever a problem or concern during completion of these assignments, I welcome parents to communicate with me through e-mail prior to the due date of the work.  If e-mail is not available, please contact me through the school office. Grades will be determined by participation, laboratory work, assignments, and quizzes.  When absent for ANY reason, the student is expected to contact myself at an appropriate time for any make-up work.  If help is needed, I will be available before (RGMS) and after school (EMS) most days.
