General Information about First Grade
One would think that the last month of school would be a piece of cake, but we still have important concepts we will be teaching the children before summer break. It is important to keep your child focused on school even though the weather is nice and summer is fast approaching.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thanks for all you do!

This month in math we will be finishing up two-digit subtraction, as well as starting on telling time. We will also be reviewing all concepts we have learned this year, especially addition and subtraction facts. Please remember to review at home if your child seems to be struggling.

This month in reading we will be focusing on the sounds /oo/ as in book, aw and au, diphthongs oi and oy, and short e spelled ea as in feather. We will also be working on syllables, compare/contrast, inflectional endings, main idea, drawing conclusions, and suffixes -er and -or.
Please remember that the best way for your child to become a better reader and to enjoy reading is for them to PRACTICE!!! In the 'Special Links' section, you will find a link to an article, “How to Make Reading a Habit”, to give you some ideas on how you can help.
