The Goddard Public Schools Police Department is proud to continue serving the students, staff, and families of USD 265 with a renewed emphasis on visibility, consistency, and connection. This year, families may notice that district police vehicles are now fully marked, carrying a design originally created by Goddard graduate Taylor Harrington. Officers will also be wearing standardized uniforms across the district, ensuring that our school community can easily recognize them as trusted and approachable members of the #265Family.

“Our department’s mission goes beyond safety—it’s about building relationships,” said Chief of Police Joe Camp. “We want every student, staff member, and parent to feel confident and comfortable when they see our officers in uniform or our marked vehicles around schools. We’re here not just to respond when needed, but to be a positive, everyday presence in our schools.”

At times, families may see multiple police cars parked outside a school building. Chief Camp explained that this is not a cause for alarm. “More often than not, it simply means our officers are inside a school engaging with students, meeting with staff, or supporting a special event,” he said. “We are regularly invited into classrooms, assemblies, and activities because we want students to see us as part of their school community, not just law enforcement.”

The USD 265 Police Department remains dedicated to protecting the district while fostering a culture of trust and care. By being present in meaningful ways, the officers aim to ensure that every student has not only a safe place to learn, but also a supportive environment where they can thrive. All USD 265 schools have implemented the Raptor Visitor Management System, a visitor check-in process designed to strengthen school security while providing a more consistent experience across every district school. Raptor is the nation's leading school visitor management system and is used by thousands of schools across the country. The system helps USD 265 staff quickly verify visitors, identify potential safety concerns, and maintain secure school environments so students and staff can focus on learning.

What Visitors Can Expect

To help keep schools safe, all visitors who wish to enter beyond the school office during the school day will be asked to:

1. Enter through the school's main/front entrance.

2. Present a valid government-issued photo ID.

3. Wear a visitor badge at all times while inside the school building.

4. Return the badge and sign out before leaving the school building.

Visitors making a quick delivery to the front office, such as dropping off a lunch or paperwork, will not need to complete the visitor check-in process unless entering other areas of the school.

Volunteer Expectations

Parents, grandparents, family members and community members who volunteer in our schools are a true gift to each school community, and are appreciated and valuable beyond measure. Individuals volunteering in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, or serving in roles that involve interaction with students may be required to complete an additional background screening before volunteering. This additional step helps ensure that those working directly with students have that additional layer of screening, so that we can continue providing the safest possible learning environments for every child.

Protecting Privacy

Families and visitors can be assured that the Raptor system is designed with privacy and protection in mind. The system compares visitor information against national registered sex offender databases and district-specific safety alerts, such as court-ordered custody restrictions or other authorized safety notifications. Information collected during check-in is limited to what is necessary for visitor identification and campus safety.
